One and a half years after the death of the former cyclist Melissa Hoskins, the verdict against her husband was made. Rohan Dennis does not have to in custody – the judge imposes other punishments.

The Australian ex-bike professional Rohan Dennis does not have to go to prison after the accidental death of his wife Melissa Hoskins. A district court in South Australian Adelaide sentenced the 34-year-old to a two-year probation sentence, according to agreed media reports. According to the ABC, the judge also imposed a five -year driving ban.

The former cyclist Hoskins died in the hospital at the age of 32 at the end of December 2023 after being hit by a pick-up truck in Adelaide in front of the couple’s house. Dennis, the father of her two children, sat at the wheel of the car.

Previously there was supposedly a dispute between the two, whereupon Dennis was said to have tried to drive away from home. “Your determination to leave the area to de -escalate the dispute helps to explain your behavior – this excuses or does not justify your disregard for your wife’s security,” said judge Ian Press.

Dennis had guilty. Initially, he was charged with death sequences, among other things, because of dangerous driving. In court, however, he admitted a less serious indictment point last December, namely that he had brought about a situation in which someone can be damaged. The other charges were dropped after a deal with the public prosecutor.

“To describe the consequences of the events of December 30, 2023 as tragic, the grief and agony that brought these events into the lives of those who knew and loved their wife Melissa Dennis,” emphasized Richter Press. “But I accept that they take responsibility for everything that has happened.” The defendant also always cooperated with the police.

“It is now time that we are looking ahead, and that is exactly what Melissa expected from us,” her parents said in front of the courthouse. “As far as Rohan is concerned: As difficult as it will be, it is important that we also have a good relationship with him,” they explained. “We miss Melissa terrible. She was something very special.”
