Why Markus Krösche hasn’t extended yet

Markus Krösche’s current employment contract with Eintracht Frankfurt expires in the summer of 2025. The SGE bosses have wanted to extend the contract with the 43-year-old sports director for a long time. But the process is currently stalled. According to a media report, there are two reasons for this.

When Markus Krösche privately looks back on his time at Eintracht Frankfurt so far, the sports director will probably sit back extremely satisfied.

His era since mid-2021 includes, among other things, the record sale of Randal Kolo Muani to Paris Saint-Germain for almost 100 million euros in the last summer transfer period, and participation in the DFB Cup final a few months earlier (0-2 against RB Leipzig ) and, above all, the Europa League triumph in 2022, which meant that Frankfurt then played in the Champions League and even made it to the round of 16.

But while a lot has changed around him, Krösche still has his working paper from more than two and a half years ago. However, that is set to change in the second half of the Bundesliga, as “Sport Bild” has learned.

According to the magazine, the SGE bosses’ request to extend Krösche’s contract – and to adapt his contract in the process – has existed since June 2023. But there are said to have been no concrete discussions so far. The plan is currently stalling.

According to “Sport Bild” information, there are two reasons for this: On the one hand, Krösche himself does not want to negotiate his future at the moment, but rather wants to focus entirely on the winter transfer window. The 43-year-old is said to have asked for full support for this and at the same time wished that his own fate would not become an issue for the time being.

Krösche negotiations only after MV from Eintracht Frankfurt

On the other hand, both Krösche and the SGE decision-makers want to wait for the general meeting at the beginning of February (February 5th), at which, among other things, President Peter Fischer will be replaced by his successor Mathias Beck. In addition, “decisions regarding smaller share sales will be made around the meeting,” it continues.

Only when the new constellation has been established will there be serious negotiations about the extension with Krösche, probably from March. By the beginning of May, the supervisory board wants to have taken the important decision regarding the sports director, according to the report.
