Aalst wants to save 100 million euros and has a drastic plan for this. The city is looking for buyers for its city schools, its residential care centers, its childcare, and for all the people who work there. More than one-third of city employees will disappear from the payroll. “By 2030, we will receive 18 million euros less support every year,” says Mayor Christoph D’Haese (N-VA). “Anyone who does not take this into account is not a good family man.”
