It is almost inevitable that Peter van der Vorst’s job as television boss of RTL is at stake after his Renze Klamer blunder. Who will be his successor? “I say: Tina Nijkamp!”
You can hardly imagine it: Peter van der Vorst prefers to flog a dead horse, RTL Tonight, to retaining and nurturing the greatest talk show talent he has: Renze Klamer. A huge miss, because Renze is the key to returning success on the late evening of RTL 4. But Peter is the only one who does not see that.
Peter fired?
The outside world sees RTL 4 as a kind of Titanic heading towards havoc, but the channel top does nothing. The big question is: will the new owner DPG Media intervene before the ice cliff is hit or will they take measures sooner? In other words: when will Peter be sent back to the canal belt?
Ordinary viewers are also surprised by it. So says a certain Lianne on social media X: “That Peter is so stubborn that they want to let this program continue. What does he want? To be fired or something?”
Classic story
TV expert Victor Vlam gives an answer to that. “It’s a classic story of not being able to admit that you’ve made a huge mistake. It never ceases to amaze me,” he says.
Lianne then proposes a possible successor to Peter. “A really huge pallet of plates for his head. But who should do it? Is Tina an option?”
Director
It is unclear whether Tina Nijkamp is interested in this, Victor then says. “I have no idea whether she would like it. Maybe Director is an option. He clearly knows about TV. And you are removing an important link at VI behind the scenes. Strategically it could be a good move.”
Victor is referring to Marco Louwerens, known as the ‘director’ of Talpa. “He worked at RTL for longer, from 2007 to 2018.”
‘It’s too bizarre’
In any case, it is incredible what Peter is doing, Victor adds in his podcast Victor Indicates TV. “It’s too bizarre for words, because RTL Tonight has lost its best presenter. I didn’t expect that, to be honest. They lost him because they really want to stick to the format of RTL Tonight.”
“Yes, I think that is a real shame and I also find it absurd that they treat a great talent like Renze in this way. What he can do, very few people can do. There are many people who have tried.”
Stubborn
Tina also thinks that Peter should make room. “In the meantime, the stubborn RTL director Peter van der Vorst continues to publicly emphasize that ‘growth is visible’. Those kinds of statements work well in internal presentations, but clash with the reality of the viewing figures and the crumbling relevance,” she sneers. The Telegraph.
She concludes: “RTL tonight won’t make a dent in a pack of butter. Not in terms of viewing figures, not in terms of content. It has become the AliExpress version of RTL boulevard.”
