Aa and Hunze seem to have a coalition of Municipal Interests, VVD and CDA. Informant Rabbe Vedder (leader of the Municipal Interests list) came up with this advice today.

The three parties will now continue to sit down to arrive at a final coalition. After the Easter weekend, the so-called formation process will take more shape. Vedder therefore acts as formateur.

The intention is that a coalition agreement will be presented in May. It must then also be clear who the parties nominate as aldermen. Each party provides one councilor.

The new coalition will certainly have three new faces. All three aldermen, Ivo Berghuis (Municipal Interests), Richard Heling (VVD) and Kiena ten Brink (PvdA), previously announced that they would resign after the current term of office.

If the parties reach an agreement, this means that the PvdA will disappear from the mayor and aldermen. The Social Democrats – who stood together with GroenLinks during the elections – lost one seat (from six to five) in the municipal elections earlier this month.

Gemeentebelangen also lost one seat, but is still the largest party with eight. The VVD rose from three to five seats, CDA and D66 remained at one and two seats respectively.

According to informant Vedder, Municipal Interests, VVD and CDA have the most similarities in their election manifestos. “They have also expressly stated that they see this collaboration as the most promising.”
