The Bundesliga schedule is also being thrown into disarray due to the storm “Elli”. There are two games canceled this Saturday.

Actually, all 18 Bundesliga clubs wanted to celebrate their competitive start to the new year this weekend. But four teams have to watch due to storm “Elli”. The north of the country was particularly affected by the heavy snow.

That’s why it wasn’t enough for the games in Bremen and Hamburg. The game between FC St. Pauli and RB Leipzig was canceled early on Friday afternoon, and then Werder Bremen against TSG Hoffenheim a few hours later.

At FC St. Pauli it was said that due to the heavy snowfall and snowdrifts, “the safety of the meeting place and the safe holding of the event in compliance with all operating regulations cannot be guaranteed.” In Bremen, on the other hand, there was talk of “significant slipperiness in the circulation areas, spectator areas and traffic areas in the Weser Stadium as well as significant snow drifts in large parts of the stadium area.”

It is still unclear when the games will be rescheduled. But since all four teams are not in international business, there are a few options.

Since there were relatively few problems caused by “Elli” in the south and west of Germany, the games between SC Freiburg against Hamburger SV and 1. FC Heidenheim against 1. FC Köln on Saturday afternoon were not at risk anyway. The game between Union Berlin and Mainz 05 can also take place because far less snow fell in the capital on the night from Thursday to Friday than expected.
