Kim-Lian van der Meij was practically glued to the star stable of SBS 6 for years, but nowadays we no longer see her. What happened to the presenter? “She’s out!”
For years it did not matter whether Kim-Lian van der Meij scored or not at SBS 6, because one thing was always certain: her contract would be extended. But now the presenter is nowhere to be seen. We only see her giving interviews about how she enjoys living in Sweden these days. Is her TV career over?
Can’t be seen anymore
Tina Nijkamp, the former channel boss of SBS 6, knows what it’s like. “Has Kim-Lian van der Meij left SBS 6? Uhm, yes, she has left with a permanent contract. She had first signed such a multi-year contract. She did a lot of things with Kees Tol for SBS 6 and later that became less and less, right,” she says in the podcast Tina’s TV Update.
Over time, Kim-Lian was less and less in the picture. “And we actually only saw her in that quiz 50/50, which she did together with Winston Gerschtanowitz. At the time, which I think was two years ago now, she was terminated from her permanent contract and was already a freelancer, but now she is no longer visible at all.”
Off the radar
There are now other things to see at Kim-Lian’s place. “Of course, that quiz is no longer visible. There are now episodes of Enforcers from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Those replays do score and Kim-Lian is off the radar. She still does something for KRO-NCRV, called Zin in Morgen, and otherwise she is not on TV.”
Tina thinks it’s ‘a shame’. “She seemed to be a potential successor to Linda de Mol one day. She had a lot to offer and could also make live television and everything, but it didn’t quite work out at SBS 6.”
Flopped
In the end, Kim-Lian’s career is not really a success story, Tina thinks. “All those programs actually all flopped. Well, okay, she now also lives in Sweden with her family.”
“That’s all fine, but I think she won’t be seen on SBS 6 for a while.”
