A wheelchair user and his passenger were seriously injured in a car accident on Thursday evening.

For reasons that are not yet known, a wheelchair user crashed his handicapped accessible vehicle into a tree around 8 p.m. on Karl-Marx-Strasse in Motzen (Dahme Spreewald). The vehicle came to rest on its side.

The trapped man had to be freed from the vehicle by the fire brigade, his passenger was able to free herself.

The driver and passenger received first aid on site from paramedics and an ambulance and were transported to hospitals for further treatment. According to the first findings, both are said to be seriously injured.

The fire brigade put the vehicle back on its feet and tied up leaking liquids, the rescuers also secured the man’s wheelchair.
