What is there to do in Drenthe this weekend?

From engine horsepower to actual horsepower and from the real steed to the steel steed, you can go in all kinds of directions in the weekend tips. From a sporting point of view, there is even more to experience in Drenthe, such as one of the largest running events in the province and a major G-football tournament. But culture and nature are also extensively discussed these days. See below a selection of the activities in Drenthe during the weekend.

Do you want to know what you can do for the bee? Then you can visit the Sustainability Center in Assen on Friday evening. The Beekeeper Association Assen organizes an introductory evening where people can learn about the importance of bees, the problems these animals face and how you can help them. According to the association, the evening is not only for people who (want to) keep bees themselves, but also for people who want to help the bees without becoming beekeepers themselves. The program starts at 7.30 pm, participation costs 10 euros. You can find more information about assignment here.

A little loose in the hips? Then you can enjoy your Friday evening in Westerbork. Every second Friday of the month there is Salsa Westerbork at Queno. The dance evening starts at 8.30 pm and is freely accessible. If you are still a bit unsure about your dance moves, from 7.30 pm there is a beginners workshop for a fee to get acquainted with merengue and salsa.

On Friday we got a little taste of spring. It is less sunny on Saturday, but that does not prevent the Veenloopcentrum Weiteveen from organizing a spring walk early in the morning. At 07:00 the guide leaves with the participants for the Schoonebeekerveld in the hope of spotting roe deer and perhaps other animal species. The walk can be combined with a breakfast afterwards. You can sign up at the Veenloopcentrum, but bring good walking shoes or boots.

Eight bicycle transferia in Drenthe will open the cycling season on Saturday with the joint Cycling Weekend Drenthe. Among other things, a new cycling map will be launched with eight routes through Drenthe. The organization behind the bicycle transferia hopes to get as many people as possible on the pedals this weekend. You can find a bicycle transferium in Emmen, Exloo, Frederiksoord, Gasselte, Orvelte, Ruinen, Veenhuizen and Appelscha. That is a kind of stopping place for cyclists. You can go there for charging electric bicycles, a cup of coffee and roadside assistance, among other things.
