The band Oôs Joôs was founded in 2003 and their songs are largely performed in the West Frisian dialect. That happened by chance during a rehearsal of a previous cover band. “One time we were playing old-fashioned rock and roll songs, like (Get your kicks on) Route 66. Then all of a sudden ‘It’s so cool at the AC de Graaf‘. And two more songs,” said the band’s bassist previously against NH.

The recipe, which provided well-known songs with West Frisian lyrics, turned out to be a golden opportunity. The number ‘Bloemkole’a story about growing cauliflowers in De Streek to the music of Status Quo’s The Wanderer, became an audience favorite. “We start our performance with the song and end with it,” says singer Edwin de Weerd. “It is embraced by young and old.”

Banners along the road

Thanks to a campaign during voting week, the song ended up in ‘the list of lists’ for the first time in 2023. There was also one this year campaign set up, including banners along the A7 and near Obdam. “You always have to wait and see, but the fact that we are back on the list is really great,” De Weerd exults.
