Volunteers are brought in from the audience to light candles with the number 832, the ranking in the Top 2000. With that ranking, the number has risen 134 places. And that is quite unique because Status Quo’s original didn’t even make the ‘list of lists’. “We climbed out of the depths of the list and rose from the ashes like a heron,” says De Weerd with a wink.

Of course the men don’t leave church without singing. In an acoustic setting the band plays the songs ‘Vader studdert in z’n skuur’, ‘Snaaibonetijd’ and ‘Prut an me leerze’, with the entire audience standing up and singing along.

Many young people also sing along to the lyrics effortlessly. “You notice that the West Frisian dialect is back,” says bassist Kees Klaver proudly. “It’s nice to keep that alive with our songs.”
