Werder Bremen separates from coach Ole Werner with immediate effect. Werner had previously announced that they wanted to leave Werder in the summer of 2026.

The 37-year-old informed those responsible on Monday that he did not want to extend his contract that expires in June 2026.
“We very much regret this decision because we were able to imagine long-term cooperation with Ole very well. We have to accept the decision now and will analyze the current situation and decide what the best solution is for Werder,” said football managing director Clemens Fritz on Monday after the Werner decision became known. The search for a successor has already started. According to the “Deichstube” portal, the club has already contacted possible successors. In addition to the ex-Leipziger Marco Rose, the outgoing Paderborn coach Lukas Kwasniok is traded. According to “Sky”, Horst Steffen, who has just missed the Bundesliga promotion in the relegation against Heidenheim with SV Elversberg, is also one of the top candidates.
Werner took over Werder Bremen in the second division in autumn 2021 and led the club directly back to the Bundesliga. In 128 competitive games, he scored an average of 1.44 points. Under his leadership, Werder improved continuously and finished eighth with 51 points last season.
