Werder Bremen: Justin Njinmah in the professional squad? BVB has a purchase option

16 scorers in the 3rd division

Justin Njinmah has taken the next step in terms of performance this season and especially in the past few weeks at Borussia Dortmund II. The 22-year-old attacker has scored nine of his eleven goals this season since the beginning of February. This has not gone unnoticed by the original club Werder Bremen, where the native of Hamburg has been under contract since 2021. Next season Njinmah could hope for appearances in the Bundesliga with the Green-Whites, confirmed Clemens Fritz of the “Picture“.

“Justin has developed extremely well. The fact that he is part of Werder’s professional squad in the coming season plays a role in our thoughts,” the former captain was quoted as saying about the winger on Tuesday. Opposite the portal “dyke roomHe added: “With his speed, he has a real weapon.” According to the newspaper, Werder sports director Frank Baumann met his counterpart at BVB Sebastian Kehl at the weekend to talk about Njinmah’s future – his advisors were already in the previous week been in Dortmund.

Because Werder cannot currently decide where Njinmah will play next season, as BVB has a purchase option that is said to be around one million euros. According to Fritz, “everything else is still open” and BVB U23 team manager Ingo Preuss had recently emphasized that they wanted to continue with the player – but he should have the next step in his career in mind. Njinmah has been one of the 15 most valuable players in the 3rd division since the market value update increased by 200,000 to 700,000 euros at the end of March.

Even before Njinmah’s performance increase, Werder fan “Falconi” wrote in the Bremen forum at Transfermarkt: “I hope that his purchase option will not be exercised. I don’t see him as a backup in the Bundesliga yet, but I could well imagine a loan to the second division (possibly Holstein Kiel). Hopefully he’ll pick up a little momentum now and play a good second half of the season so that he can also recommend himself for a higher level.” In the BVB II forum, “Doc_Gonzo” recently commented: “Then why shouldn’t BVB take the option to buy Njinmah ? Recently it was said that it was in the high six-digit range, let’s just assume a million. Barring an injury, the lad will easily be worth double or triple that in 2024. All he would have to do is increase his chance conversion slightly.”
