SV Werder Bremen’s 10 million euros in bonuses, 2 million in bonuses – the new attacker Samuel Mbangula costs. It is the second highest sum in the club’s history that is invested for a new addition. A day later, the sports director of the Grün-Weißen, Clemens Fritz, classified the transfer of Juventus Turin’s 21-year-old Belgian in the training camp compared to the reporters present.
“This is not common for many clubs, but we have always emphasized that we can implement such a transfer,” the former Werder captain is quoted by the “dike room”, for example. “You can tell that overall more money is in the market that increase sums.” Only Davy Klaassen was even more expensive at 13.5 millions paid to Everton at the Easter dike. Marko Marin, Max Kruse or Niclas Füllkrug came to Bremen – of course that was six to 16 years ago.
Fritz said that you could of course question whether all of this was “justified”, but that’s the way it is, the transfer market: “These are the prices that have to be paid on the market. You have to take more money in your hand, because there is simply more money in circulation. On the other hand, of course you also have to look where it comes from.” This was coordinated with the Supervisory Board. With Juventus there were some rounds of talk and the result was “reasonable” for all sides. The Bianconeri had confirmed the transfer in four installments. According to Fritz, this is “nothing unusual in today’s world”.
With regard to other possible entrances, Fritz wanted to “not build air locks”, as the “picture” wrote. Werder knows his economic situation, which has never been particularly rosy in recent years. Leonardo Bittencourt 2020 recently cost more than 5 million euros, for which 7 million went to Hoffenheim. Also because of its own strength on the transfer market, the next step required by ex-coach Ole Werner may not have been done so far, Europe has always been missed after returning, even if it sometimes seemed possible. In any case, Fritz found it “important to make such a transfer and show courage”.
