‘Weak bite in slow motion’, Willy and René casually crack PSV

PSV took three important points at home against Fortuna Sittard in the battle for second place. Still, the game of the people of Eindhoven was ‘below all standards’. according to club icons Willy and René van de Kerkhof “It’s a good thing we have Xavi Simons,” says Willy in the Willy and René Podcast of Omroep Brabant. “He made the difference for an uninterested PSV. It seemed like slow motion.”

René was also annoyed by PSV’s game. “It was a weak bite. They thought: that goal will fall, but they had to work much harder for that than they thought.”

According to Willy, it was also no coincidence that PSV got into trouble against low-flyer Fortuna. “That always happens against these kinds of teams. Then laziness creeps into the team. We also lost most points on that.”

“What good is Bakayoko if he doesn’t perform?”

Many PSV players did not come close to their level. “I thought Bakayoko was really bad,” says Willy. “It wasn’t changed for nothing either.” René, who was once a PSV right winger himself, is a bit more positive. “He has something. You have to honor such an old-fashioned right winger. I like to see him.” To which Willy replies: “What good is that if he doesn’t perform?”

While second place is still not certain, the brothers are already looking ahead to next season. Besides Xavi Simons, the brothers would like to keep mercenaries Jarrad Branthwaite and Fabio Silva. But that seems to be difficult.

“We have more than enough players for the width.”

“We need two midfielders and a right back,” says Willy, “because Teze didn’t make it.” René: “PSV should not get players for width, because we have more than enough.”

Of course the brothers have words of appreciation for the ‘more than deserved’ new champion Feyenoord. In fact, as accomplished singers with several singles to their name, they sing ‘Hand in hand, comrades’ in this week’s podcast.

René also responds to fierce criticism he received from Amsterdam in response to the previous episode:
