It really is the most bizarre excuse for cheating in Dutch showbiz history: Waylon blamed erection problems two years ago. Problems that apparently did not bother him with his mistress; so painful for his sweetheart Bibi Breijman. Angela de Jong immediately lashed out at him and called him a weakling.
Mister Erection
How does Angela view it now? Well, pretty much the same, she says in the AD program Famous or Infamous. “If it comes out that you cheated on your wife during her pregnancy, then yes, the Netherlands has little mercy and in my view I say ‘rightly’.”
She continues: “After that one episode of Boerderij Van Dorst, yes, every time I look at Waylon I have the idea: oh yes, Mister Erection Problems! I thought that was so strange that he said that on television.”
Celebrated singer
We should not exaggerate Waylon’s musical success, says Angela. “What I find so great about Waylon is that he is a celebrated singer, while I cannot remember a single hit of his, except the song he performed with Ilse at the Eurovision Song Contest. For the rest, I only see him singing covers when I see him somewhere.”
She continues: “I often think with Waylon, as with other artists: if only they had someone standing next to them who kept that career path in mind like a hawk, and I have the feeling that it is now a bit more fluid.”
Crowd favorite
Will the masses ever love Waylon? “I don’t think he’s a crowd favorite and will never really feel like he’s at the top.”
She concludes hopefully: “Whether Waylon is a directionless occasional singer or the eternal promise? Then let me give him the benefit of the doubt: eternal promise.”
