Water polo players ZV de Zaan national champion for the first time in history

The water polo players of ZV de Zaan have become champions of the Netherlands for the first time in club history. On Friday, GZC Donk won 16-10 and today they won 13-10 at home to decide the best-of-three series.

ZV De Zaan has existed since 2012 and was created from a merger between ZWV de Zaan and ZZC Alliance. Earlier, Mick van den Bree’s team won the super cup and the cup.

Wet suit

“This is the crowning glory of this season,” says Van den Bree in a wet suit in front of NH Sport’s camera. The trainer went completely according to tradition after the victory cup-under. “We went into it voluntarily now.”

In the packed and attractive swimming pool De Slag in Zaandam, ZV de Zaan actually never ran into problems. At halftime, the Zaankanters were already leading 7-4 and that difference only grew in the third and fourth periods. “In terms of defense it was good and offensively we are super strong with many girls who are very dangerous.” An enthusiastic and proud Lieke Rogge looks back on the competition won.

Men play third game

The men of ZV De Zaan also play for the national championship. They won 19-11 against GZC Donk today to bring the best-of-three series to 1-1. The all-deciding third game will be played in Gouda tomorrow at 3 PM.
