In the tariff dispute at Zalando, the Verdi union again called for a warning strike at the logistics center in Erfurt. Verdi wants recognition of area contract

The union accuses Zalando of refusing collective bargaining so far. In order to continue to put pressure on, the warning strike should be continued until Wednesday morning. About 80 employees: inside the early shift participated at the beginning.

Verdi calls for the employees to recognize the area collective agreements for individual and mail order in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia. Here, wages for warehouse workers were about ten percent higher than Zalando currently paid, it said. In addition, there would be higher surcharges, shorter weekly working hours, tariff pension and further improvements.

“It does not fail because of the money. The employees of the Zalando Group generated more than 500 million euros in the company in the past financial year,” said union secretary Matthias Adorf. The payment of the wages would only cost Zalando a fraction of this profit. It is about appreciation and respect.

Zalando insists on operational regulations

The company spokesman said about Verdi criticism: “We firmly believe in flexible, internal solutions and the direct exchange of all employees with each other.” The work of unions respects the company. However, improvements in working conditions were “regardless of trade union activities”.

The company relies on cooperation with the works councils and employees who represented the workforce. According to Zalando, there were a total of 9.8 percent at Zalando last year. The remuneration, including with vacation and Christmas bonuses, would be checked and adapted annually.
