Warm late summer and autumn ensure crowds at Drenthe holiday parks

While the autumn holidays have only just started in Drenthe, they are already over for most of the Netherlands. And this is reflected in the bookings for campsites and holiday homes. They are having an above-average good autumn. Camping during the autumn holidays seems to be becoming more and more common.

Although there was still a lot of rain last week, the autumn holidays were the reason for many people to go out with their tent or caravan. The temperatures are quite mild this autumn. The Drenthe Leisure Sector Monitor shows that the occupancy at campsites during the last autumn holiday was almost twice as high as the year before.

Drenthe campsites are on average 43% full this autumn holiday. In 2022 the occupancy rate was much lower. At that time, campsites in Drenthe were on average 26% full. “It seems that campers also use the autumn more often to enjoy a camping trip in Drenthe,” notes Marketing Drenthe.

Hotels, bungalow parks and owners of individual houses are also having a good autumn compared to last year. While figures for cottage sites last year lagged somewhat behind the pre-corona period, this appears to be picking up again this year.

The autumn holidays seem to be becoming more popular for a camping week in Drenthe, but in September hotels, campsites, B&Bs and cottage providers had a great month. While the rain came pouring down last summer, September was exceptionally sunny and was even the second warmest September ever. More than a third of entrepreneurs received more guests than usual in September.

Almost all entrepreneurs who offer places to stay are very satisfied with the late season. Only 7% say they are not satisfied, according to the Drentse Leisure Sector Monitor.
