Vos records second stage win in a row in the Tour of Scandinavia | NOW

Marianne Vos won another stage in the Tour of Scandinavia on Wednesday. The Brabant woman was again the strongest in the bunch sprint in the second stage in Sweden.

After a flat stage over 153.8 kilometers from Orust to Strömstad, Vos was just ahead of the Swedish Emilia Fahlin in the sprint. Italian Barbara Guarischi crossed the finish line in third place. With Floortje Mackaij (seventh) and Demi Vollering (tenth), two more Dutch riders finished in the top ten.

According to Vos it was a difficult sprint. “We came into the city with a lot of speed and there followed a very technical final with a lot of corners,” she said.

“Trek-Segafredo put in a good jump with 1km to go and got a gap. At first I hesitated a bit, but then I knew I had to go. Emilia passed me with a lot of speed, so I tried to catch up with her. It was very close, but I’m glad I won.”

Thanks to her second stage win in a row, Vos, who already won the opening stage in Denmark on Tuesday, is also firmly in the lead in the general classification. The Dutch is now fourteen seconds ahead of the American Megan Jastrab and Fahlin.

Marianne Vos also leads the general classification in Scandinavia.

Vos also won four stages in July

The 35-year-old Vos recorded her sixth victory of this season in Sweden. Last month, the Jumbo-Visma rider won two stages in both the Giro Donne and the Tour de France Femmes.

Last weekend Vos initially also won the Swedish WorldTour race Postnord Vargarda WestSweden. She was later disqualified for being in the so-called puppy pawsattitude, in which drivers place their wrists on the steering wheel.

The Tour of Scandinavia, which is part of the WorldTour, continues in Norway on Thursday with a 118.9-kilometer stage from Moss to Sarpsborg. The stage race lasts until Sunday.

Last year the Tour of Scandinavia was still called the Tour of Norway and Annemiek van Vleuten claimed the overall victory. The winner of the Tour de France Femmes is not participating now. Vos took the overall victory in Norway in 2017, 2018 and 2019.
