Lindsey Vonn on the podium with Sofia Goggia. The second descent in St. Moritz offers other emotions, but after yesterday’s triumph the American legend however had to surrender to the German Emma Aicher. On the Corviglia this time Lindsey wasn’t perfect, she took a big risk after a bounce on a bump, neither was Sofia, in the fourth sector she accumulated almost 3 tenths of a delay finishing as low as Vonn. In the end, the ranking sees Aicher in the lead in 1’30″50, Vonn second at 24/100 and Goggia third at 29/100. Waiting for the third episode, tomorrow, in the super-G which closes the weekend in St. Moritz. Good sixth place for Laura Pirovano, sixth (at 76/100) behind Johnson and Puchner.

“I’m happy with the attitude and satisfied with the performance and the result – these are the words of Sofia Goggia on the Rai microphones -. It’s a shame about the long one: it was essential to get out of speed, but there were a few waves and I ended up at the bottom”. Goggia had not yet finished in the top three this season, yesterday she was fourth. “Today I was more convinced. I don’t take it as an excuse, but the temperatures and snow at Copper Mountain didn’t allow me to train downhill. It’s a process that continues.” For the German Aicher it is the second success in the downhill and the third in the World Cup. And after the slalom podium in Levi he is a candidate for the leading role in the season.

Two other Italians are in the 30: Roberta Melesi 23rd at 1″73, Elena Curtoni 27th at 2″00.

Record

Another day to remember for Lindsey Vonn, always accompanied in the reconnaissance and at the finish line by the “consultant” Aksel Svindal. She achieved podium number 140 in her career, ahead of her only Ingemar Stenmark (155) and Mikaela Shiffrin (160). But her 410th Cup start is a record, surpassing Renate Goetschl’s 409. And the race towards the Cortina Games continues after the return to the track a year ago.
