The Dutch volleyball players were unable to give a good follow-up to the stunt against Japan in the Nations League. The team of national coach Avital Selinger lost no chance against Turkey on Thursday.

The Orange squad, which had lost the previous five meetings with Turkey, lost in three sets in Calgary: 23-25, 11-25 and 21-25.

The Netherlands led 17-16 in the first set, but then had little to contribute. In the second company Turkey was much too strong and in the third set the match was decided after five quarters of an hour.

Celeste Plak was good for ten points against Turkey. Eline Timmerman accounted for nine points and Anne Buijs scored seven points.

Selinger’s team had won the previous two games in the Nations League. South Korea was beaten two weeks before the stunt against Japan.

Due to the defeat against Turkey, the Orange remains fourteenth in the competition with sixteen countries. Belgium is the next opponent on Friday. A place in the top eight and therefore a place for the quarter-finals is almost out of reach.
