VfB Friedrichshafen won its semi-final against Berlin Volleys. This means that the Häfler are in the final in Mannheim against Lüneburg.

In a close and high-class game over long stretches, the hosts VfB Friedrichshafen deservedly won 3:2 (21:25, 25:20, 25:23, 20:25, 15:13) and are now in the final against Lüneburg. After Berlin won the first set, Friedrichshafen turned the game around and won two sets in a row before the Berliners managed to equalize the set at 2-2. In the decisive fifth set, Friedrichshafen had the better end.

Berlin takes the first set

The first set started evenly. Neither team was able to really break away at the beginning, so it remained a close game until the middle of the set, which then tipped more and more towards Berlin. The Berliners continually expanded their lead and benefited from the high efficiency of Jake Hanes, who was able to capitalize on six attacks alone. With the score at 24:21 for Berlin, a ball from Louis Kunstmann landed out of bounds – the first set went to the guests.

The second set was also close. After a short time it was already 10:10, but then the pendulum swung towards Friedrichshafen. The Häfler became more and more dominant and scored several times in a row, and the home team soon led 17:13. But Berlin was not impressed by this and came back again. A Friedrichshafen block ended up making it 20:19 from the Häfler perspective – Berlin was back to within one point. Nevertheless, Friedrichshafen remained focused and managed to extend its lead again. The hosts ultimately equalized the set at 25:20.

Friedrichshafen turns the game

This equalizer inspired VfB Friedrichshafen. Overall, the Häflers seemed to be a little more toxic than their opponents from Berlin. After a block from Kunstmann, they quickly led 3-0. However, Berlin soon equalized and this set also remained close. Nevertheless, Friedrichshafen was usually just ahead, supported by strong block work. However, Berlin still couldn’t be shaken off and equalized several times. When the score was 23:23, a Berlin service error led to the set point for Friedrichshafen, which Parker Van Buren converted to 25:23. The men from Lake Constance led 2-1 in sets.

Even in the fourth set, Friedrichshafen initially remained in control and usually led by one or two points. Nevertheless, after an error by Gustavo Maciel, the score was 13:13 in the middle of the set. When the score was 16:16, there was a shock for the Friedrichshafen team: national player Tim Peter had to go out injured. Berlin immediately took advantage of the Häfler’s slight phase of weakness that followed. Berlin Volleys won the fourth set with 25:20, so the game should go into the deciding set.

VfB Friedrichshafen in the Decision sentence totally there

In the fifth and decisive set, the hosts showed themselves fully focused again. Vojin Cacic took the first three-point lead of the period with his point to make it 5:2. Shortly afterwards, Van Buren even increased the score to 6:2, before a mistake in the Berlin attack gave them a comfortable 7:2 lead. Berlin managed to get close again, but Friedrichshafen held a narrow lead. With the score at 14:13, VfB converted their second match point to victory. This means that the Friedrichshafen team is in the final of the DVV Cup.

In the final in Mannheim, VfB Friedrichshafen meets SVG Lüneburg. The Lower Saxony team had already defeated the SWD Powervolleys Düren 3-0 (25:23, 25:17, 26:24) on Tuesday evening.
