The group’s CEO judges the agreement reached with the unions positively
The staff reduction agreed in the agreement with Ig Metall corresponds to the closure of “2 or 3 large factories”. Volkswagen Group CEO Oliver Blume said this in an interview with Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. Volkswagen, under the agreement, excludes dismissals against the will of the worker until 2030; at the same time, again between now and 2030, there will be 35,000 people leaving work in “socially responsible” ways, equal to a reduction of approximately 30% of the workforce; there will be no bonuses, however the monthly pay levels will not be affected.

The agreement “is good news” for Volkswagen, the manager said, but “there is still a lot of work to do, especially in terms of costs”. “Germany needs a rebirth, to get out of the emergency lane and return to the fast lane” said Blume, listing some of the conditions necessary for the relaunch of the German economy and Volkswagen: “Reduce costs, reduce bureaucratic obstacles, have low-cost energy and security around subsidy commitments.”
