The early Eurovision favorite has had to explain his social media update.
Søren, representing Denmark in Eurovision, had to take a stand on his previous social media update. PDO
Vocalist Søren Torpegaard Lund this year will represent Denmark in Eurovision with a song Før vi går Hjem.
Now, however, the singer has found himself in the middle of an uproar because of his social media update. Søren published a picture in his Instagram stories showing a computer on the bed. However, social media followers paid attention to the stickers attached to the computer.
One sticker smacked of the terrorist organization Hamas, while the other had text supporting Israel. The story is no longer visible on the artist’s social account, but several screenshots of it have spread.
In social media, the stickers have sparked a strong discussion.
– I’m disappointed, one user writes the artist With a Tiktok account.
– Tell me this is not true, because he is my favorite this year, the Tiktok user thinks.
Israel’s participation in Eurovision has long attracted criticism of the song contest. In Finland, several artists and cultural influencers have appealed to Yleisradio to boycott the competition. The petition handed over to Yle by the artists criticized Israel’s military actions in Gaza. In September of last year, the United Nations Special Committee found Israel guilty of genocide in Gaza.
As many as five countries boycotted the song contest this year because of Israel.
Søren has commented on his uproar on Instagram.
If you don’t see the update, you can view it from here.
– I notice that something I shared has been interpreted in a way that has caused a lot of reactions. It was never my intention, the artist writes.
– To be completely clear: the computer shown in the story is not mine.
The Viuisu representative says that he meets many kinds of people through his work. He writes that he believes in respecting and loving others.
– My focus is on my music and the sense of community that I hope to create through it. I will bring that with me to Eurovision.
