The Finnish textile group Marimekko Corporation is driving forward its growth in Asia. On Monday, the company announced its expansion into two new markets. These are Indonesia and the Philippines. The aim is to strengthen the brand’s presence in the “dynamic markets of Southeast Asia,” according to a statement.
According to the company, the first new openings in both countries are scheduled to take place this summer. As is usual in the region, the group relies on “loose licensing partnerships”. In Indonesia, Marimekko works with PT Panen Lestari Indonesia, which is part of the MAP Group. The first store in the country is scheduled to open in the capital Jakarta in early summer. The location is the Plaza Senayan shopping center.
The partner for the Philippines is Rustan Commercial Corporation. The market entry there is planned with the gradual opening of four shop-in-shop areas in luxury department stores in the Manila metropolitan region.
According to Marimekko, the growth steps now announced follow the expansion strategy designed until 2027. As part of the plans, Asia is “the most important geographical region for international growth” because demand for the brand’s products is expected to increase in the long term, the company said.
According to its own information, Marimekko is currently represented in various markets in the Asia-Pacific region with 94 stores and shop-in-shop areas as well as its own online shops. Of these, 24 locations are in Southeast Asia alone. The textile provider also has online stores in Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and Vietnam.
