Regarding speculation about an inharmonious separation from Seoane predecessor Farke, Virkus said: “There was no quarrel with the coach. From my point of view, we reached a reasonable understanding in the end and said together: Let’s do something new. And now we’re looking ahead, not backwards.”

Gladbach’s Virkus: Greatest need for action in defense

Virkus sees the greatest need for action in the search for greater sporting clout in defense: “We have to work on compactness and defensive stability. That was a problem last season, and we’re hoping for the necessary progress under Seoane.” The “foals” conceded 55 goals last season with 52 of their own.

Talks about an extension are in progress with Florian Neuhaus and Nico Elvedi – two of nine “foal” professionals with working papers ending in 2024. “Our goal is for them to choose Borussia with full conviction.
