Violet Grohl knows the world thinks she’s a Nepo Baby thanks to her father, Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters and Nirvana. But that doesn’t bother her.

“Of course doors are open to me because of my last name,” the 19-year-old singer and songwriter told The Forty-Five magazine in a new interview. “It’s not something I would ever hide behind or say, ‘No, I worked so hard for this! You shouldn’t say that! It hurts my feelings.'”

“I don’t care, really,” she added. “I’ve been hearing that since I was 13. So feel free to call me a Nepo Baby as much as you want. I don’t give a damn. I just hope people give me a chance at some point.”

Debut album in May

Grohl, the eldest daughter of Dave Grohl and his wife Jordyn Blum, is gearing up to release her debut album, Be Sweet to Me, out May 29th. Last month, she shared the single “595” and its accompanying music video, directed by Nikki Milan Houston.

The upcoming album, recorded between 2024 and 2025, is inspired by the alternative rock of the late eighties and early nineties – the Pixies, Soundgarden, the Cocteau Twins and the Breeders.

Grohl said she consciously drew on a sound she grew up with. “There is something incredibly powerful about this era of music – from the messages to the aesthetics, that is authentic and raw,” she said in a statement accompanying the album announcement.

Festival appearances this summer

Grohl is no stranger to the stage – she has performed at Foo Fighters performances over the years. This summer she is now traveling through the festival landscape. In August she will be on the program at the Belgian Pukkelpop, followed by shows at Reading and Leeds in Great Britain. In September she will be at the Shaky Knees Festival in Atlanta.

“Come to my live shows,” Grohl challenged her doubters. “Listen to my music and then you can decide for yourself whether I deserve this career or not.”
