RTL’s top executive Peter Lubbers has expressed serious interest in bringing the popular show “Vandaag Inside” back to the network, a claim confirmed by presenter Wilfred Genee in a recent interview. Genee shared details about this discussion in an article for AD, saying, “Are you guys interested in coming this way?”

Penny wise, pound foolish: Letting go of the men behind “Vandaag Inside” is often regarded as one of RTL’s biggest blunders. The trio has emerged as a significant contributor to the success of rival network SBS 6. Initially, these men were earning €350,000 per year at RTL, but their request for €450,000 met resistance, with RTL only willing to offer €390,000.
The Million Dollar Decision
This disagreement led to their high-profile transfer to Talpa in 2018, where Johan and René secured salaries of €500,000, while Wilfred’s annual pay jumped to €700,000. When Wilfred ventured into radio, his earnings soared to nearly €1 million per year. Now that they create daily television content, all three could easily surpass the million-euro mark.
Recently, Johan even claimed he might return to RTL for an extra €500,000 per year, though he later retracted that statement. He emphasized his loyalty to John de Mol, but it raises the question: how does Wilfred feel about this potential RTL revival?
A Flirtation with RTL
In response to questions about the seriousness of the discussions with RTL, Wilfred shared on AD, “It’s very simple. Peter Lubbers called me, mentioning that Renze Klamer is actually doing quite well at RTL. Then he casually asked, ‘Are you guys still interested in coming this way?’”
When asked if they would consider this, Wilfred replied that it was uncertain and he’d discuss it with his colleagues. Shortly after, Johan declared publicly that he wouldn’t go back to RTL unless they offered €500,000 more. Wilfred texted Peter Lubbers, conveying Johan’s response, which was met with a simple smiley emoji.
Expanding Horizons
After years of persistence, Wilfred finally has the opportunity to step outside the confines of “Vandaag Inside,” teaming up with SBS 6 for a new show titled “Mi Dushi: What is Love?” Here, he will engage in conversations with well-known couples on the picturesque island of Curaçao.
“Such interview formats require a proper platform, which is often difficult to establish at a commercial station like SBS 6. I’m genuinely thrilled to have this opportunity, especially considering we’ll be in Curaçao. While there’s skepticism, I’m eager to see how audiences react once they put that aside,” Wilfred expressed.
