It is a city disguised as a village. Heemskerk has apartment blocks with metropolitan problems next to an agricultural area with bulb growers. There are tensions with youth groups, a heated discussion about an asylum seekers’ center, but there is also an annual typical North Holland folk festival with a fair and lots of beer. Heemskerk resembles the Netherlands, but on a smaller scale. Micro-sized polarization? No, in the coastal village they manage to find a solution together.
