Victims of the Anreep home invasion near Assen were terrified. Main suspect from Groningen sentenced to 9 years and TBS

The robbery of the home of the then owner of a TT campsite was carefully planned. The male resident, his partner and his then 73-year-old mother were terrified by the robbers.

The court in Assen said this on Monday during the ruling against the suspects of, among other things, home robberies in the Anreep neighborhood and Vlaardingen. In both cases, residents were held hostage, abused and threatened with a firearm. In the case of Anreep, the campsite owner’s home, the robbers were inside for hours. Three suspects have been arrested for this. They went to trial in December last year.

Robbers wanted code safe

According to the court, four robbers were inside, including a 31-year-old suspect from Groningen and a 41-year-old man from Enschede. The other two were never caught. According to the court, a 19-year-old man from the municipality of Aa en Hunze tipped off the criminals that there was a large amount of money in the safe. He had attended a party of the victim’s son in the home about six months before the robbery.

According to the court, the robbers held the three people who were in the house in Anreep hostage for hours on the night of December 7 to 8, 2022, tied up and threatened them with a firearm. “They wanted the code to the safe, which would contain a lot of cash. The male resident was assaulted and dragged to the bathroom. He had to give the code, otherwise he would die a painful death. His mother and his partner were tied up under a blanket and had to listen to him being abused.”

Criminals tipped off

The suspects then tried for hours with a grinder to open the safe. That did not work. “The robbery was carefully planned. The suspects had received information from the victims’ social circle.” According to the court, this also applies to the robbery that was committed six months earlier on a couple from Vlaardingen, whose wife was heavily pregnant.

According to the court, the Groningen suspect was also involved in that robbery. “He threatened the victims with firearms and threatened to shoot the woman in the head. The other suspects also used violence. The entire house has been searched. The robbers took luxury goods and money.” In this case too, the criminals were tipped off by an acquaintance of the victims.

The Groningen man who was involved in both robberies was sentenced to 9 years in prison and TBS with coercion. The court ordered the man from Enschede to spend 6 years in prison and then to a TBS clinic. According to the court, a 23-year-old man from Assen is partly guilty of the robbery in Vlaardingen. He has been sentenced to 4 years in prison. The same sentence was imposed on a man from Den Helder.

15 year old suspect

A then 15-year-old boy from Assen was sentenced to one year in juvenile detention and youth TBS for his role in, among other things, the robbery in Vlaardingen last summer. The 19-year-old boy who assisted in the robbery in Anreep as a tipster has been sentenced to 900 days in prison, of which 699 days are conditional. The man who helped the criminals prepare the robbery in Vlaardingen has been sentenced to 3 years in prison, of which one year is conditional.

According to the court, victims of the home robbery in Anreep are entitled to a total of 38,000 euros in compensation. The convicts have to pay that. The couple in Vlaardingen will receive 20,000 euros in compensation.
