Was already an issue in the summer

VfL Wolfsburg would like to improve on the transfer market in the winter after a weak start to the season. As “Sky Sports UK” reports, the Lower Saxony team could start a new push for Kristoffer Ajer from Brentford FC. The 27-year-old central defender was already an issue in the Autostadt in the summer, but the Londoners rejected an offer.
According to the report, Wolves were willing to pay €13 million for Ajer. The Norwegian came to Brentford from Celtic in the summer of 2021 and has played 103 games since then. Under new coach Keith Andrews, the defender had a difficult time at the start of the season, with Nathan Collins and Sepp van den Berg in central defense. Most recently he played as a left-back several times and established himself there before back problems put him out of action.
In the Bundesliga, the Wolves conceded 18 goals in ten games. Konstantinos Koulierakis is in the center of defense, with Moritz Jenz next to him replacing the injured Denis Vavro. After Vavro comes back from an adductor injury, the Wolves will have to be without Jenz for a longer period. New signing Jenson Seelt from AFC Sunderland hasn’t been a big factor yet – the Dutchman has appeared on the pitch four times in the Bundesliga.
Since Ajer’s contract is valid until 2028 and he has been in the starting lineup several times recently, VfL would probably have to increase the offer from the summer again. The Norwegian national player is currently valued at a market value of 16 million euros – the factory club pays this amount, Ajer would be the second most expensive defender in the club’s history. The Wolves not only want to improve on defense, but also on offense, where Niclas Füllkrug is being traded (to the article).
