VfL Wolfsburg loses three more stars
08.05.2025 – 2:46 p.m.Reading time: 2 min.

The farewell to several regular players had long been determined by VfL Wolfsburg. But now there are three more stars.
The personnel upheaval among VfL Wolfsburg footballers goes into the next round – and is getting bigger. With Anneke Borbe, Sveindís Jónsdóttir and Lynn Wilms, three other top performers will leave the club after the season. VfL confirmed this on Thursday. All three contracts expire.
This increases the number of departures to ten. At the last home game of the season on Sunday (2 p.m./DAZN, Magenta Sport and Sport1) against Bayer Leverkusen, the players should then be officially adopted.
In addition to Jónsdóttir, Wilms and Borbe, Marina Hegering, who changes to the 1st FC Köln, as well as the national players Kathrin Hendrich and Jule Brand are also on the list. The departure of ex-DFB goalkeeper Merle Frohms has also been determined. The former international Tabea Sellner ends her career.
On the other hand, there are also several new additions, including national goalkeeper Stina Johannes von Eintracht Frankfurt and defender Cora Zicai from SC Freiburg. The sporting management will take over Stephan Lerch for the coming season, who was already on the sidelines for Wolfsburg from 2017 to 2021. Tommy Stroot had resigned as head coach in early April. Sabrina Eckhoff is currently training the team in the interior.
Sporty is an important goal for VfL on the last Bundesliga matchday: the direct qualification for the Champions League. The team is currently in second place with 48 points – a counter before Eintracht Frankfurt. The SGE competes at RB Leipzig at the weekend. Only the runner -up qualifies directly for the reformed premier class, the third has to be qualified.
