VfL Wolfsburg has found a successor for goalkeeper Koen Casteels (31), who is leaving at the end of the season. Kamil Grabara comes from FC Copenhagen and will receive a long-term contract with the “Wolves” for the 2024/25 season. VfL also has the option of making the change as early as next January.
FC Copenhagen confirmed in a stock market release that the Grabara transfer is expected to have a positive effect on earnings before taxes for 2024 of around 6.7 million euros – but this is not to be equated with the transfer fee paid, which is higher lies. Loud “table football“ VfL pays 13.5 million euros, from which ex-club Liverpool FC also benefits. The Reds are said to have secured a stake of 20 percent.
With Grabara, Majer & Co.: The most expensive additions to VfL Wolfsburg

With the fee, Grabara has become the third most expensive goalkeeper in Bundesliga history. After RB Leipzig, Wolfsburg is also the second club from the German upper house to secure the services of an expensive keeper well in advance of the coming season. In April 2022, the Saxons announced the €10 million signing of Maarten Vandevoordt from KRC Genk (21).
After the first defeat of the season at TSG Hoffenheim, Wolfsburg announced on Saturday that Casteels would not extend the expiring contract. Successor Grabara was trained at Liverpool from the beginning of 2016 and moved to Copenhagen in the summer of 2021. A year later he made his international debut for Poland. With FCK he managed to qualify for the Champions League last week. In 88 games for the Danish champions so far, he has kept 40 clean sheets.
VfL Wolfsburg sees Grabara as a “high-quality solution” as a Casteels replacement
“We are convinced that we have found a high-quality solution for Koen Casteels’ forthcoming move in Kamil Grabara and are very happy that we were able to come to an early agreement with the player and the club. Kamil has been a big part of FC Copenhagen’s success over the past two years and has also shown strong performances on the international stage. We hope that he will continue his good development this season and we are happy that he will be part of our team from next season,” said sporting director Sebastian Schindzielorz.

Grabara added: “The way VfL looked after me convinced me very quickly that this was the right step in my career. That’s why the decision to move to Wolfsburg was easy for me. I really look forward to repaying the trust that has been placed in me. But until then, I will do everything I can to have a good and successful season with FC Copenhagen and to achieve our goals together with my team.”
