VfL Wolfsburg: Contract with Koen Casteels will not be extended

At VfL since 2015

By the end of the 2023/24 season, Koen Casteels (31) will have played nine seasons at VfL Wolfsburg. There is no more, as the club announced on Saturday evening. The goalkeeper wanted to “take on another new challenge”, as he explained in the message from “Wolves”.

Casteels, who, according to managing director Marcel Schäfer, has “also become a face of our team”, has stood between the posts 252 times for Lower Saxony in a competitive game. His contract expires in the summer. The Belgian said: “I’ve thought about this step carefully and I’m looking forward to what’s to come. But now I will focus 100 percent on the current season in order to achieve the best possible with VfL.”
