VfL Osnabrück has found a successor to coach Marco Antwerp. Timo Schultz was hired as the new chief coach. The third division team did not provide any information at the contract term. The 47-year-old was last responsible for the 1st FC Köln by summer 2024, where he could not prevent the descent. Another station was FC Basel. At FC St. Pauli he successfully had his coaching career.
“After the separation from Marco Antwerp, we created the profile of the new trainer and discussed this with Joe Enochs, when it was clear that he would become a new director. On the basis, we then dealt intensively with Timo Schultz and so we were able to do all the conversations together. We were able to win the VfL. Michael Welling.
Schultz explained: “I know VfL very well from my active time as a player, I have played more competitive games against no other club. Since I am a coach, the paths have been crossed up several times in the offspring and in the license area. I was also able to get an impression of VfL Osnabrück as a family but ambitious club.
At the end of May, Osnabrück announced the separation of Antwerp and assistant Frank Döpper with a long list of grievances of the past few months. The duo on the Bremen bridge had only taken over at the turn of the year. In the 3rd league, the purple and whites succeeded after some tremors. Nevertheless, the season of the previous second division team could only be seen as a great failure. Most recently, the team missed participation in the DFB Cup in the state cup final against BW Lohne (2: 4). After reporting on discrepancies between the coach and club tour and the team, Antwerp in the message to the Departure from VfL himself did not have their say.
