3,018 days after his last appearance for VfL Bochum, goalkeeper Andreas Luthe will be back in the starting line-up on Saturday. Coach Thomas Letsch confirmed this at a press conference on Friday before the Bundesliga duel with RB Leipzig. The 36-year-old, who returned from 1. FC Kaiserslautern in January, replaces number one Manuel Riemann, who received his fifth yellow card last weekend. “It is clear that Andreas Luthe will be in the box tomorrow. We hired him in the winter for just such a situation. He will do his job, Andi is extremely experienced,” said Letsch.

Luthe, who has also played for Union Berlin and FC Augsburg in addition to FCK, last stood between the posts for VfL on November 27, 2015. However, that was in the 2nd Bundesliga, his last Bundesliga game was on October 18, 2009 and was therefore 5,249 days ago. The keeper played a total of 169 games for the team from Castroper Strasse – he didn’t appear more often for any other team in his career.

When it comes to Bochum’s goalkeeper, in addition to the suspended Riemann, Niclas Thiede is also out with a broken finger and Michael Esser with knee problems, which is why Hugo Rölleke from the U19 has been added to the squad.
