VfB Stuttgart is thinking of a return campaign

Bundesliga club VfB Stuttgart has the opportunity to bring defender Matej Maglica back from Swiss Super League representative FC St. Gallen. A decision is expected soon.

VfB Stuttgart are considering signing central defender Matej Maglica again. This is reported by the “kicker”.

The Swabians had signed the Croatian from Oberliga club Göppinger SV in the summer of 2020, but after his Bundesliga debut in November 2021 he did not return to the German top flight. In January 2022, the Stuttgart team gave the 24-year-old first on loan and then permanently to FC St. Gallen – including a buyback option, as the trade journal now reports.

However, the deadline for withdrawing the clause expires on June 15. Therefore, a timely decision is expected. According to the report, if VfB Stuttgart decides to transfer again, 450,000 euros must be transferred to the Swiss club.

Will VfB Stuttgart give up Mavropanos?

47 appearances in the Swiss Super League suggest that Maglica, a year and a half after leaving the country, now has the necessary format for the Bundesliga. The 1.98 meter tall defender made his mark on the FC St. Gallen team straight away, and he made 34 competitive appearances last season.

However, VfB Stuttgart will probably only have a real need for central defense if one of the regular players of the past season should leave the club. Rumors have persisted for months that the Greek Konstantinos Mavropanos is aiming to say goodbye. The defender’s working paper is valid for two more years.

According to the “kicker”, it is possible that Mavropanos will bring in a double-digit million sum this summer if the financially strong clubs from the English Premier League should push ahead with their squad planning.
