Striker Deniz Undav left the pitch injured on Saturday during VfB Stuttgart’s 2-1 defeat in Darmstadt. Now it is clear: the goalscorer is out for the time being.
VfB Stuttgart has to make do without striker Deniz Undav (27) for the time being. The candidate for the home European Championship this summer suffered a small muscle fiber tear in his left back thigh during the Swabians’ 2-1 win at SV Darmstadt 98.
Undav will definitely be out for the home game against 1. FC Köln, the third-placed team in the Bundesliga announced on Monday. If everything goes smoothly, a game against VfL Wolfsburg a week later “cannot be ruled out”.
Undav was substituted in the final stages last Saturday because he had already had muscular problems. With 14 Bundesliga goals, the striker is VfB’s second best goalscorer of the season behind Serhou Guirassy (18).
Coach Sebastian Hoeneß’s team is currently missing a top performer in the fight for Champions League qualification. Striker partner Guirassy, who initially had gastrointestinal problems after the Africa Cup, recently reported fit for the starting eleven. In Darmstadt he played for the first time since playing for the Guinea national team and scored to give them a 1-0 lead.
