VfB Stuttgart has extended the contract with national player Jamie Leweling by one year until 2029. The runner-up confirmed on Tuesday morning the same information from Transfermarkt and “Skys” from Monday. The 23-year-old winger was signed by the Swabians in the summer from Union Berlin after a loan for 5 million euros. He has since increased his market value from 9 million to 13 million euros – there will be another plus in the Bundesliga update on Friday.
“Jamie embodies a lot of what people here associate with the upward development at VfB Stuttgart,” said VfB sports director Fabian Wohlgemuth. “It is his honest way of playing football as well as his will and ability to get better He has made his mark in the hearts of many of our supporters. Jamie has become a difference player at VfB. He gives our game important impetus and initiates or is directly involved in many decisive moments. “What level of performance Jamie has achieved here in the last few months. We are pleased with Jamie’s clear commitment and that we have been able to retain enormous sporting quality in Stuttgart for the long term with this early contract extension.”
Leweling at VfB Stuttgart: Higher salary, clause changed
As part of the extension, Leweling’s salary was reportedly increased, making the right winger one of the Swabians’ top earners in the future. Before that, he should receive around 1.5 million euros per year. Deniz Undav (28) and Chris Führich (26) earn the highest salary in the club, estimated at just over 4 million euros.
According to Sky, part of the new agreement is also a change to the exit clause. The option in the range of 20 million to 25 million euros no longer exists, the pay-TV broadcaster wrote, without going into further detail. Leweling had become a German international this season before a thigh injury stopped him. In 15 competitive games for Stuttgart he had recorded three scorers and scored straight away in his DFB debut.
The professional himself said: “I know exactly what I have at VfB and am therefore very happy about the contract extension. The coach, those responsible for the club and everyone in the club and the surrounding area trust me and have given me extreme support in my development. I would like to get back on the pitch soon and pick up where I left off before the injury.”
