“Lucrative offer” for Hoffenheim

VfB Stuttgart has announced the first new signing of the winter. Jacob Bruun Larsen comes from TSG Hoffenheim and signs until 2027, according to Sky with the option of another year. The 26-year-old offensive player’s contract in Kraichgau would have expired in the summer, so the rumored transfer fee of 1.7 million euros is well below his market value.
Hoffenheim signed Bruun Larsen from Borussia Dortmund in January 2020 for €9 million. Since then he has played 76 games for TSG, in which he was involved in 13 goals. Since he was unable to make a breakthrough at Hoffenheim, he was loaned out to RSC Anderlecht and FC Burnley in the meantime. After returning from a successful loan to England, he played twelve games in the current Bundesliga season and contributed two goals and two assists.
Bruun Larsen reached his highest market value of 20 million euros in December 2018 after he made his breakthrough at BVB. As a result, however, it fell to 3 million euros until his loan to Burnley FC in 2023, before climbing to 8 million euros. The Dane is currently valued at 6 million euros. It is his second attempt at VfB, for whom he played 104 minutes in four games on loan in the second half of the 2017/18 season.
Bruun Larsen, including fixed transfers after loans, is Stuttgart’s 16th signing this season, with expenses increasing to 77.2 million euros. There was a lot of movement, especially in attack, after Serhou Guirassy’s departure. After Deniz Undav, Ermedin Demirovic, Jamie Leweling, El Bilal Touré, Fabian Rieder, Nick Woltemade and Justin Diehl, the left winger is the eighth offensive player that VfB has signed. Sebastian Hoeneß’s squad includes 34 professionals, replacing Hoffenheim as the league leaders in this category.
From TSG to VfB: Wohlgemuth and Schicker comment on the transfer
“My memory of my time in Stuttgart is very positive – as a young player I was able to gain valuable experience and get to know the club and its extraordinary fans. I’m all the more pleased to be able to play for VfB again. I want to help ensure that we are successful together,” said Bruun Larsen. Fabian Wohlgemuth, Sports Director at VfB, explained: “Jacob can be used in several positions in the offensive area. He knows the Bundesliga, he has international experience and he was at VfB as a young player. With his style of play and his mentality, Jacob fits us and our style of play very well. We are pleased that we were able to realize the transfer and warmly welcome Jacob to VfB.”
“Jacob is fundamentally a player with a lot of potential, extraordinary abilities and also has an outstanding human character,” said Hoffenheim’s sports director Andreas Schicker. “But it is also a fact that Jacob’s contract would have expired in the summer and VfB Stuttgart has now approached us with a lucrative offer for us. Jacob then also approached us with the desire to move to Stuttgart. In the end, we agreed to the transfer after good discussions together. We wish Jacob all the best for his future journey.”
