VfB Stuttgart: Borna Sosa leaves the future open – rumors about AS Roma

Rumors about Rome interest

Defender Borna Sosa from VfB Stuttgart has left his future open beyond the summer despite the current contract until 2025. The transfer period is long and many things could happen, said the third most valuable professional in the Swabian squad during the training camp in Austria. It is important to him that a good solution is found for him and the club.

“If something good comes up for the club and me, we’ll talk,” said the 25-year-old, who switched from Dinamo Zagreb to VfB in 2018 for 6 million euros and has been one of the Bundesliga club’s change candidates year after year since then. So far, no concrete offer has been received for him. If there were to be a transfer, the Croatian international had a club in mind “that is fighting for Europe.” That doesn’t have to mean that it “is playing in the Champions League this year,” he explained.

Sosa on possible VfB departure: Spain and Italy irritate

Spain or Italy would appeal to him, Sosa continued. Life, people and culture are very similar there to Croatia. Of course, England would also be “perfect,” said the left-back, “because it’s the best league in the world in terms of sport.” A change within the Bundesliga is unlikely, however, since the top teams in his position are already occupied.

Most recently, the left foot was associated in Italian media with AS Roma, who were already interested in his services in 2020. A sum of 15 million euros is in the room as a transfer, VfB has only received more for five players so far. TM user “MrSonderbar” writes in the TM rumor mill: “Would be a good fit for me at first glance. I think Serie A is the perfect league for Sosa and Roma would be a good and right step forward. Should he come as a replacement for Spinazzola, that could also fit, since the two are already similar in style of play. For a price between 14 and 20 million, that would be a good deal for VfB and could therefore be a win for everyone involved.”

But Sosa can also well imagine staying at VfB, with whom he is still under contract until June 30, 2025. “It’s not a problem for me to stay here,” he said. Should this become a reality, he hopes “that we will not fight relegation again. I’ve been in this situation for two years now and it’s not good for my head.”
