Alexander Wehrle has announced a relentless analysis at VfB Stuttgart after the end of the season. “As CEO, I have overall responsibility and no matter how this season ends, we will critically question everything, absolutely everything. Because it can’t go on like this,” Wehrle told the DAZN streaming service on Sunday during the break in the Bundesliga game against VfL Bochum. “We’ll finish the season and then we’ll go into the analysis relentlessly. Then we will definitely make some changes,” he announced.
During the week, Wehrle had presented Sebastian Hoeneß as the new coach of the Swabians, who were threatened with relegation. He should save VfB from the third relegation since 2016. “He immediately developed a very good connection to the team, he has arrived here. That’s why I’m convinced that we’ll be able to successfully play the remaining games with him. There’s no way we’re going to hire a fifth coach this season, you can be sure of that,” said Wehrle.
After Pellegrino Matarazzo, interim coach Michael Wimmer and Labbadia, Hoeneß is the fourth coach in Wehrles for a little over a year as the Swabians’ CEO. Only in the 1998/99 season had they hired four coaches in a Bundesliga season. The club’s situation is precarious and Wehrle is also under increasing pressure.
