I’m amazed, I don’t understand… so I call her.” On the other end of the line, the woman’s agitated tone clarifies the gravity of the situation: «He tells me that he had just developed a fire within Griffith Park, directly above the home».
The race against time of Vasco Rossi’s staff
The flames immediately raised the alarm among the singer’s collaborators. «Her and Lukas – my sound engineer – they ran to collect the most important and precious things… For Marina her animals, for Lukas the backup disks of all the recording studio’s work”, said Vasco. A quick and organized evacuation, before the fire spread further. «Luckily they arrived immediately firefighterswhich they have immediately brought under control and extinguished the beginning of a fire which would have been very dangerous. Fighting fires in Los Angeles
The fire involving Griffith Park is alone one of many that are devastating Southern California. Among the most serious there is Hughes Fireburst at Castaicabout 80 kilometers north of Los Angeles, which has already burned more than 40 square kilometers of land. Tens of thousands of people were forced to evacuate their homes, and 476 inmates at a men’s prison were moved to emergency accommodation.
Concerns about weather and toxic debris
The National Weather Service announced heavy rain over the weekendwhich could slow the spread of flames but take it with you new risks. “Many of the burned lands are extremely fragile,” explained Ariel Cohenmeteorologist in charge of the Los Angeles area. This increases the risk of debris flows which could affect downstream areas. What raises further fears is the presence of toxic debrissuch as charred residues from buildings and cars, which could contaminate soil and water, prompting Mayor Karen Bass to order extraordinary measures for their removal.
