Cyclist Mathieu van der Poel will ride the Tour de France this summer. He said this in an interview with the Spanish sports newspaper AS. According to Van der Poel, it is also ‘very possible’ that he will compete in the mountain bike world championship at the end of August.

“We are preparing my schedule for the Tour de France, which I will certainly participate in,” says Van der Poel the sports newspaper. “We have to see which races I do before I go there. It is likely that there will be some mountain bike races among them.”

After the Tour de France, the Alpecin – Premier Tech rider wants to focus on the Mountain Bike World Championships in Val di Sole, Italy. “It’s true that it follows quite close to the Tour de France, but I think I can arrive in top form and give everything there,” he says.

Four disciplines
The Mountain Bike World Cup is the great goal of the all-rounder on the bike: “Because no one has ever won in all four disciplines.” Van der Poel has already become world champion on the road, in cyclo-cross and on gravel. “So that would be a historic victory,” he indicates. A unique achievement that has already been achieved in the women’s peloton by the French Pauline Ferrand-Prévot

Van der Poel has already participated in the Tour de France five times before. He made his debut in 2021 and won the stage to Mûr de Bretagne. That day he won the yellow leader’s jersey. This year’s Tour de France starts on July 4 in Barcelona and ends in Paris on July 26, according to tradition.
