Minister Letschert (OCW) has approved the termination of radio program channels NPO Campus Radio and NPO Soul & Jazz as of January 1, 2026 and the television program channels NPO 2 Extra and BVN, and the other program channel BVN Online as of December 31, 2026.

Stop an existing channel

If the NPO wants to terminate existing supply channels, the minister must grant approval. The Netherlands has agreed with the European Commission that a transparent procedure will be followed for this.

The procedure followed in brief:

  • the Council for Culture and the Media Authority advise the minister;
  • a final decision will be made within 6 months.

Request termination of supply channels

NPO has submitted an application in the 2026 budget for ministerial approval for the termination of the aforementioned supply channels.

What are NPO Campus Radio and NPO Soul & Jazz, NPO 2 Extra, BVN and BVN Online

  • NPO Campus Radio is a channel with a focus on talent development and offers new radio talent a stage before they are ready for the main stage.
  • NPO Soul & Jazz is a radio station with a focus on soul– and jazz music and matching genres and has spoken programming.
  • NPO 2 Extra is a linear supply channel that broadcasts content about culture.
  • BVN and BVN Online provide media services for Dutch speakers abroad.

Notification and making available for inspection final decision on termination of supply channels

The minister’s final decision contains approval of the termination of the radio program channels NPO Campus Radio and NPO Soul & Jazz, the television program channels NPO 2 Extra and BVN, and the other program channel BVN Online. The substantive content of the decision was announced in the Government Gazette on 30 April. The decision will also be sent to the interested parties known to the ministry, including the NPO as applicant.

Submit an objection

An interested party can submit an objection against this decision to the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science. Submission by post is made to:
