The Spanish weather service Aemet has scaled up the weather warning for heavy rains and thunderstorms in the Valencia and Catalonia region from code orange to code red. For fear of similar floods such as last October, when 235 people were killed, residents were alerted through their phones to the approaching bad weather of Monday and Tuesday.
