Uwe Seeler believes in HSV promotion again

Uwe Seeler has his HSV back in the fight for promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga.

“The hope is back that we’ll finally make it into the Bundesliga after four years. There’s a chance,” said the 85-year-old former professional and president of Hamburger SV.

The reason for his confidence is HSV’s top start in the second half of the season with the recent 5-0 win at leaders Darmstadt 98 as the crowning glory.

“I didn’t expect such a strong performance. I’m happy to admit that,” Seeler told the “Bild” newspaper. The former Bundesliga top scorer (137 goals in 239 games) was enthusiastic about his successor Robert Glatzel, who increased his goal tally to 14 goals this season with a four-pack in Darmstadt.

“Phenomenal! Robert did credit to the number 9 on his back. It was very impressive how cold he shot things in,” praised “Us Uwe” the HSV centre-forward.

Since the top group of the 2nd division is still close together, HSV must continue on Saturday (1:30 p.m. / Sky) in the home game against 1. FC Heidenheim where it left off in Darmstadt. The HSV icon is annoyed that he can’t be there live because of his ailing health: “A visit to the Volksparkstadion would just be too exhausting. But the team will make it without me.”
