Usain Bolt expects “no world record”

The eight-time Olympic champion and double world record holder Usain Bolt sees his best times at the World Championships in Athletics in Eugene as safe.

“I don’t think we will see a world record in Eugene,” the Jamaican told the Funke media group’s newspapers. “It’s not for nothing that they say: Records are there to be broken. But will that happen one day? I don’t know.”

The athletics icon analyzed that “thanks to technical developments, many athletes are much faster today than they were a few years ago”, but are still at the top with “times of 9.7 and 9.8 seconds over the shorter one and 19.4 or 19.5 seconds over the longer sprint distance” are a good distance from his world records. These are 9.58 seconds over the 100 meters and 19.19 seconds over the 200 meters.

In the night from Saturday to Sunday (4:50 a.m.) the world champion is sought over the 100 meters. Bolt does not want to commit himself to a favorite – not even to the Italian Olympic champion Lamont Marcell Jacobs. He keeps struggling with injuries.

“I really hope that he can stay healthy now and show his incredible talent to the world for many years to come,” said the Jamaican.
