Ex-success coach Jürgen Klopp can now be seen in a commercial in the USA. And thus ensures discussions. Also because the viewers don’t know him.

Jürgen Klopp, the charismatic ex-coach from FC Liverpool as well as Borussia Dortmund and current Head of Global Soccer at Red Bull, is now the face of the new global advertising campaign from Trivago. In a humorous TV spot that is broadcast in the USA, Klopp advertises the hotel search platform and highlights how users can save on hotel bookings.

Although Klopp is a football icon in Europe, he is less known in the United States. This led to a wave of reactions on social media, in which many spectators wondered who the man was in advertising. Some more, some less seriously. Some comments, on the other hand, also referred to its striking appearance, others speculated about his role in the spot. A user on the platform X noticed: “Who is this type in Trivago advertising? Looks like a European football coach or something.” Another wrote: “Does the trivago type otherwise disturb someone? Especially their teeth?”

With the help of artificial intelligence in twelve languages, Trivago has localized the campaign in order to address a broad international target group. The spot is broadcast in over 20 countries, including the USA, Canada, France and Italy. However, no charisma is currently planned in Germany, since Klopp is already working as a testimonial for numerous other brands.

The partnership between Trivago and Klopp was taught by the sports marketing agency Sportfive. Trivago CEO Johannes Thomas emphasized that Klopp’s authentic and smart personality is perfect for the brand values ​​of Trivago.
